Vanuatu – State of emergency

20 april, 2020

Vanuatu Post wishes to inform other union member countries and their designated operators that the Vanuatu Government declared a state of emergency on 20 March 2020, resulting in the closure of international borders, because of the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition, Vanuatu suffered damage in early April as a result of Tropical Cyclone Harold.

Postal service quality for international inbound and outbound services and service delivery standards (including delivery time and other quality parameters) for letter-post, parcel-post and EMS items, applicable under UPU provisions and related bilateral and multilateral agreements with designated operators, can no longer be guaranteed until further notice.

Vanuatu Post is therefore declaring a force majeure situation for letter-post and parcel-post items (suspension of Pay-for-Performance penalties has been unanimously agreed by the EMS Cooperative).

Vanuatu Post thanks all Union member countries and their designated operators for their understanding. It will update them via EmIS once the situation has returned to normal.
